Our level system

Easy Español’s unique level system is based on four stages of language development

Teaching and Assessment of Spanish as a Second Language of the Council of Europe and the curriculum of Instituto Cervantes.

  • STAGE 1… Language Acquisition In this foundation stage, we focus on helping students acquire the language naturally and intuitively through intense listening comprehension activities. This stage corresponds to the traditional Beginner Level.
  • STAGE 2… Language Development Once the student has developed the necessary language skills to communicate simply and easily, we work on helping the students mature the language to a more complex level of communication. This stage corresponds to the traditional Intermediate level.
  • STAGE 3… Language Expansion In this stage, the language is expanded to include complex grammar structures and an expansive lexicon with an emphasis on the language’s social and cultural components. This level corresponds to the traditional Advanced level.
  • STAGE 4… Language Perfection This is the final stage of language acquisition in any language and is an ongoing language process that never ends. In this stage, the speaker has acquired full fluency but keeps perfecting the language and its social, cultural and cognitive ramifications. This stage corresponds to the Proficient level according to the framework for Learning, Teaching and Assessment of Spanish as a Second Language of the Council of Europe and the curriculum of Instituto Cervantes.
