Easy Podcast: Quito, luz de América

On August 10, 1809, a group of citizens in Quito, Ecuador, led by a Manuela Cañizares, overthrew the Spanish local authorities and established their own government.

Although by October of that same year, the Spanish forces had defeated this revolutionary group, this event known as Primer Grito de Independencia (First Cry of Independence) had a ripple of effect through the country and later the continent which earned Quito the name of “Luz de America” (Light of America).
