The Unión de Naciones Suramericanas (Union of South American Nations) commonly known as UNASUR is a regional intergovernmental organization that was founded with the goal of safeguarding the sovereignty of the union countries while strengthening their social, cultural, political and financial ties.

Constituted in 2008, the member states of UNASUR were Venezuela, Brasil, Argentina, Bolivia, Brasil, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname and Uruguay.

However, political changes in the region have left UNASUR in an uncertain state with several of its members withdrawing from the organization.
