En español tenemos muchas expresiones que utilizan la palabra ‘cara’ y aquí veremos algunas de las más populares:
- A cara de perro = showing no consideration for one’s opponent
- A cara descubierta = openly
- ¡Alegra esa cara! = cheer up!
- Cara a cara = face-to-face
- Cara de circunstancias serious look
- Cara de perro/pocos amigos/vinagre = sour/grim/stern/unfriendly face
- Cara de póker = poker face
- ¿Cara o cruz? = heads or tails?
- Con cara de pocos amigos = with a sour/unfriendly face, with a face like thunder
- Con cara de póker = with a poker face, poker-faced
- ¿Con qué cara voy a? = how do you expect me to have the nerve to?
- Dar la cara = to face it/things/the facts/the music
- Dar/sacar la cara por alguien = stand up for sb
- De cara a (para) = with a view to
- De cara a (mirando a) = facing to
- De cara a la pared = facing the wall
- Decirle a alguien algo a la cara = to say sth to sb’s face
- Echar algo a cara o cruz = to toss/spin a coin for (+ sth), toss/flip for it
- Encontrarse cara a cara con alguien = to meet sb face to face
- Estallarle en plena cara (situación, problemas) = to blow up/go up in sb’s face
- La otra cara/la cara opuesta de la moneda = the other side of the coin
- Mirar a (alguien) a la cara = to look (sb) in the face/eye
- No pongas esa cara = don’t look like that
- No volver a mirar a alguien a la cara = to not want to have anything to do with sb again
- Notársele en la cara = to show in sb’s face
- Partirle/romperle la cara a alguien = to smash sb’s face in
- Partirse la cara (pelearse a puñetazos) = to come to blows
- Poner cara/carita de ángel = to look/act innocent, to look as if butter wouldn’t melt in his/her mouth
- Poner cara de = to look like ( + n ), look as if ( + v )
- Poner cara de asco = to look disgusted
- Poner cara de bueno = to look all innocent
- Poner cara de perro/de (muy) pocos amigos = to look daggers at sb, to put on a sour / mean face
- Poner cara larga/mala cara = to pull a long face
- Poner la cara colorada a alguien = to make sb feel ashamed
- Ponerle al mal tiempo buena cara = to put a brave face on it, grin and bear it
- Ponerse de cara a la pared = to face the wall
- ¡Qué cara más dura!= what a cheek/nerve!
- (Lo mejor) que te puedes echar a la cara = (the best) you could ever wish/imagine
- Por su bella/linda cara/por su cara bonita (sin merecerlo) = undeservedly
- ¡Qué buena cara tiene la comida! = the food looks delicious!
- Reírse de alguien en su cara = to laugh in sb’s face
- Salvar la cara = to save face
- Tener cara de pocos amigos = to look unfriendly, have a long face
- Tener dos caras = to be two-faced
- Tener el sol/viento de cara = to be facing the sun/the wind / to have the sun/the wind on your face
- Tener algo mala cara = to look bad
- Tener alguien buena/mala cara = to look well/ill
- Tener alguien mucha cara/ser un cara/tener más cara que espalda = to have a cheek, be cheeky, have a nerve
- Tener cara de pascua = look radiant/very happy, be beaming with joy
- Un bofetón en la cara = a slap in/across the face, a slap in the face/eye
- Volver la cara = to look the other way, turn away
- Volver la cara atrás = to look back.
