(1) TO FIGHT AS PELEAR
When the verb “to fight” is used to describe a physical or verbal confrontation, we translate it as “pelear”:
Siempre están peleando por dinero.
They are always fighting about money.
(2) TO FIGHT AS LUCHAR
When we talk about striving vigorously and resolutely to accomplish a goal, the verb “to fight” is translated as “luchar”:
Miles de personas participaron en una maratón para luchar contra el cáncer de mama.
Thousands of people participated in a marathon to fight against breast cancer.
(3) TO FIGHT AS BATALLAR
We translate the verb “to fight” as “batallar” when we are talking about armed confrontations between opposing groups in which each attempts to harm or gain power over the other (using bodily force, weapons, slander and other verbal threats, ect):
Se desató una batalla vegetal entre la multitud enfurecida.
A vegetable fight broke out among the enraged mob.
(4) TO FIGHT AS DISCUTIR
When we use the verb “to fight” to refer to quarreling or having an argument with someone, we translate it as “discutir”:
Siempre terminan discutiendo sobre política.
They always end up fighting over politics.
