Jorge E. Gallegos

Academic Director / Co-Founder of Easy Español Inc.

Living out his passion, Jorge has over 15 years of experience teaching Spanish as a second language and Hispanic culture. He has taught students of all ages and backgrounds with many different learning objectives.

He has a B.A. degree with a double major in Psychology and Spanish Literature and a minor in Anthropology from St. John’s University; an M.A. in Hispanic Literature from St. John’s University; and an M.A. in Applied Linguistics from Universidad Antonio de Nebrija in Spain. Additionally, he has completed many courses in, Philology, Applied Linguistics and teaching methodology.  Jorge has developed an exclusive teaching methodology for Spanish called the Audio-Cognitive method.

Before launching Easy Español in 2004, Jorge taught at the Instituto Cervantes in New York; at Hunter College High School; and at St. Johns University in New York.

He was born and raised in Guayaquil, Ecuador and lives in New York City with his wife and daughter. Jorge is a U.S citizen and some other passions, besides teaching, include literature, Zen, traveling, art, politics, cooking and gardening.

María José Peñaherrera

Co-Founder / Study Abroad Coordinator / Webmaster

María José has had 12 years of professional experience in many different areas of communication including, among others, broadcasting, online marketing and teaching English, Spanish and Hispanic Literature.

She has a B.A. degree from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Quito with a major in Social Communications and a minor in Comparative Literature; a Diploma from Universidad AndinaSimón Bolívar in Communications and New Technologies.

Before co-founding Easy Español in 2004, María José worked as Web Communications Manager; taught English as a second language to elementary school children in Quito.

She translated and edited several articles and books including notably the international bestseller “The Secret” – “El Secreto”.

She is the Academic Director of Easy Español 4Kids, a pioneering total immersion Spanish program for elementary school children in New York. She is also the Study Abroad coordinator for Easy Espanol.

A U.S. Resident, born and raised in Ecuador, Maria Jose lives in New York with her husband and children. In addition to her interests in teaching and technology, she loves Latin American literature, yoga & cooking.

John Estrada / Colombia

Senior In Person Language Coach

John has had fifteen years of experience teaching Spanish and Hispanic Literature mostly to undergraduate and graduate students.

He has a B.A. degree in Philosophy and Comparative Literature from Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá, Colombia; and an M.A. in Hispanic and Luso-Brazilian Literature from City University of New York; CUNY. He is a PhD candidate at City University of New York, CUNY, working on a dissertation in Medieval Spanish Literature.

John teaches Spanish and Hispanic Literature as an Adjunct Lecturer at Hostos Community College and Medgar Evers College, City University of New York. Prior to CUNY he taught at Yeshiva University and State University of New York (SUNY).

Born and raised in Medellín, Colombia, John is a U.S. Resident who has lived in New York for twenty years. He loves French and Italian cinema and is an expert on Spanish wine and coffee from all over the world.

Pepa Muñoz Tarrazona / España

In Person Language Coach

Pepa has been teaching young children for over 5. She has a B.A degree in Special Education with a major in early childhood education from Universidad Catolica de Valencia – Spain. She also holds a Diploma in teaching Spanish as a second language. She has worked as head teacher in several private schools in grades 2nd, 3rd & 4th .

Pepa has also developed a Summer School Program curriculum & worked as a main instructor. She is an energetic, fun and loving teacher with lots of creativity and love for teaching.

Maria Angelica Garcia / Venezuela

In Person Language Coach

Maria Angelica has had 11 years of professional teaching experience, six of them concentrated in the Spanish language. She has a B.A. degree with a major in Art History, and a M.S. in History from the Universidad Central de Venezuela; same place where she dedicated 5 years as a Professor.

She has worked as a private Spanish teacher for children, young adults and adults. Maria Angelica also works as an Spanish editor, proofreader and professional translator. She is currently the main teacher at our After School Programs in 7 sites in Astoria & Manhattan.

Maria Angelica is the mother of a toddler, an experienced photographer and a crazy cat lover.

Mabel Uceta / República Dominicana

In Person Language Coach

Mabel Uceta is from the Dominican Republic and she has over 10 years of experience teaching languages. She has taught English as a second language and French as a foreign language. She has also tutored Spanish as a second language from home. She has a Bachelor in Education as well as a Major in Foreign Languages from the Dominican Republican.

She has taught languages to people of all ages, from 3-year old children to adults. She is passionate abour teaching and loves to learn new languages.

Patricia Calderón / Ecuador

Patricia has more than 20 years of experience teaching Spanish as a second language. She holds a Master’s Degree in Spanish and Literature from Universidad Central del Ecuador. Patricia has taught students of all ages and backgrounds and her students love her thought-provoking yet compassionate teaching style.

Patricia is the co-author of EspañoldelMundo, a popular textbook to teach Spanish used in many South American Spanish language schools. She has conducted numerous training workshops and seminars on teaching Spanish as a second language.

Patricia is a certified DELE instructor. She has taken on-line professional development courses at the Instituto Cervantes and other institutions.

In her spare time, Patricia enjoys cooking and spending time with her husband and two young children. She is also interested in literature, traveling, art and social studies.

Agostina Horni / Argentina

Agostina Horni is a Sworn Translator graduated from CAECE University (Mar del Plata, Argentina), and she also holds a minor degree in Technical-Scientific Translation. Her primary academic interests include Spanish and English grammar, Spanish and English translation, particularly technical-scientific translation. Agostina has spent the past ten years tutoring teenagers and adults in both English and Spanish, with a special focus on oral skills and written composition.

In her spare time, Agostina enjoys reading mythology (especially Greek and Roman), classic fiction (Austen, Dickens and Brontë), as well as fantasy and mystery novels. She is also interested in Japanese music, language and animation.

Patricia Ochoa / Ecuador

Patricia Ochoa has worked as a Spanish teacher for seventeen years. She holds an Accountant A. A. degree from the Universidad Central del Ecuador, and a B. A. in Educational Studies, with an specialization in Spanish as a Second Language, from the Pontífice Universidad Católica del Ecuador (PUCE-I).

Patricia has also attended several seminars and courses related to teaching Spanish as a second language and have tutored students of all ages. She is a patient, supportive and keen teacher and is a certified DELE instructor.

Patricia loves to share her culture and traditions with her students and her hobbies include reading, visiting museums, outdoor activities and spending time with her children.

Elena Corral / Ecuador

Elena holds a B.A. degree in Education Sciences and a diploma in Teaching Spanish as a Second Language from Universidad Católica in Quito, Ecuador. She is a certified DELE instructor with more than 18 years of experience in teaching Spanish as a second language.  Her students refer to her as “the” teacher. She is smart, caring and extremely patient.

Elena loves teaching and has participated in several seminars and courses related to teaching Spanish.

She enjoys learning and practicing cosmetology and obtained the title of Executive Secretary and Expert of Beauty. She loves practicing her training on her family and friends. Some other passions include, reading literature, reciting poetry and debating social issues among friends.

Edith Ochoa / Ecuador

Edith Ochoa has more than 9 years of experience teaching Spanish as a second language. She holds a degree in Education Sciences and a specialization in teaching Spanish as a second language from Universidad Católica in Quito, Ecuador.

Edith is a certified DELE instructor and has designed special projects for the creation and development of didactic materials for teaching Spanish as a second language. Her teaching skills include applying new technologies to language acquisition. She is an easy-going, empathetic and caring teacher.

In her spare time, she enjoys reading historical novels, spending time with friends and listening to music.

Eliana Mendoza / Venezuela

Eliana Mendoza holds a degree in Modern Languages with a minor in Business. She has been building a career in the language teaching field for more than 7 years. She has worked as an In-company English instructor for well-known Venezuelan companies and she also has worked as an English teacher at the UCV. By working for an international School, she’s earned very valuable experience in the field.

Eliana believes that professional development is an essential element to keep growing, so she’s taken part in a variety of venues promoted by VenTESOL, a non-profitable organization whose aim is to develop expertise in the English Language teaching and learning. She’s also pursued the certification of Teacher of Spanish as Second language at the Central University of Venezuelan, one of the leading Venezuelan universities.

Additionally, Eliana has brought life to a variety of characters as a dubbing actress for TV serials, and worked as a script translator. She enjoys singing, reading, cooking, learning about other cultures, and spending time with her family.

Jorge Castillo / Venezuela

Jorge Castillo has been working as an English teacher in Venezuela for nearly 6 years. He has taught in high schools, institutions and companies. He also has worked as a freelance translator.

Jorge holds a degree in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (ESL) from the Universidad Pedagógica Experimental Libertador and a “CELTA” certificate from the British Council.

Jorge currently lives with his wife in Caracas, the capital city of Venezuela. He loves to share with people from different cultures and languages, and his hobbies are reading, cooking and drawing.

Edith Celin / Ecuador

Edith Celin has more than 18 years of experience teaching Spanish as a second language. She holds a degree in Education Sciences in Indoamérica University and a specialization in teaching Spanish as a second language from Universidad Católica in Quito, Ecuador.

She has taught students of all ages whose goals range from religion, art, culture and traveling.

Edith is also knowledgeable in English and some German. She is patient, flexible yet strict, and she always tries her best to help her students fulfill their language goals.

In her spare time she loves traveling, reading, learning new languages, dancing salsa, playing soccer, and trekking.
