Jorge E. Gallegos Academic Director / Co-Founder |  | Living out his passion, Jorge has had 15 years of experience teaching the Spanish language and Hispanic culture. He has taught students of all ages and backgrounds with many different learning objectives. He has a B.A. degree with a major in Psychology from St. Johns University; a M.A. in Hispanic Literature from St. Johns University; and a M.A. in Applied Linguistics from Universidad Antonio de Nebrija in Spain; and has completed all coursework toward a Certificado de estudios de Posgrado in Spanish Culture and Civilization (Graduate Studies) from Universidad de Alcalá de Henares in Spain. Before launching Easy Español in 2004, Jorge taught at the Instituto Cervantes in New York; at Hunter College High School in New York; and at St. Johns University in New York. | He was born and raised in Guayaquil, Ecuador and lives in New York City with his wife and daughter. Jorge is a U.S citizen. His other passions include traveling, politics and gardening.
| María José Peñaherrera Co-Founder / Study Abroad Coordinator / Webmaster |  | María José has had 10 years of professional experience in many different areas of communication including, among others, broadcasting, online marketing and teaching English, Spanish language and Hispanic Literature. She has a B.A. degree from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Quito with a major in Social Communications and a minor in Comparative Literature; a M.A. from Universidad Andina Simón Bolívar in Communications and New Technologies. Before co-founding Easy Español in 2004, María José worked as Web Communications Manager for a major private bank in Quito; taught English as a second language to elementary school children at Centro Educativo Integral in Quito. | She has translated and edited several articles and books including notably the international bestseller "The Secret / The Gratitude Book" - "El Secreto / El libro de la gratitud". She is the Academic Director of “Español para Chicos” a pioneering total immersion Spanish program for toddlers in New York. A U.S. Resident, born and raised in Ecuador, Maria Jose lives in New York with her husband and three-year-old daughter. In addition to her interests in teaching and technology, she loves Latin American literature and yoga.
